elizaevans asked: The reverse lipliner is Cargo. Looking it up, Ulta only carries two shades. Which sucks!
nudiemuse asked: I need help. I have the tiniest bit of Mac's So Scarlet lipstick left and I need a good dupe. Drug store or department store. Manic Panic's Blood Red is so close on me but not exactly right. I've been looking and swatching reds but so far no go and I am a sad Sparklefemme.
wrestlingentropy asked: This might be outside your purview since it's not makeup as such, but do you have any recommendations for a good hair blow-drying tutorial (on YouTube or in print)? I have baby fine hair that's just about shoulder length, and I'm usually able to get decent volume at my roots, but the ends always look scraggly and fly-away unless I take the time to get out my flat iron (which I...
elizaevans asked: Re: Lipliner. I have a REVERSE lipliner that I love. You trace the outer edge of your mouth and then blend it out and, boom, no traveling lippy. It is white in the pencil but seems clear when I blend it, so I'm not sure whether or not it would work for people of color.
niseema asked: In response to brush cleaning dialogue - please do not use conditioner on your brushes. Shampoo is probably not the best either. The best and most gentle way to clean your brushes is to use clean, hot water, a few drops of dish soap, and about a teaspoon of plain white vinegar.
Anonymous asked: So, about lipliner. Is it necessary? Do I need one to match every colour of lipstick I have, or is there a way of getting just one?
nudiemuse asked: I recommend Aveeno sunscreens except for dark skin because they can show up a little ashy.
retromodernelle asked: For excellent sunscreens, I'd recommend anything by Paula's Choice. Of course, Tumblr will no longer let me link. *sigh*
dontbearuiner asked: One more makeup removal trick!
I take a Q-tip and soak that sucker with saline/contact lens solution. The cheap drugstore-brand stuff works just fine.
Then I pull my eyelid to the side and rub the damp q-tip end along the lash line. I repeat until no more makeup comes off on the q-tip.
Eye makeup remover would also work here, and my mom always did it...

fatsmartandpretty asked: I'm looking for a high SPF (30+) oil free moisturizer. Any suggestions?
mapmakerscolors-deactivated2012 asked: How do you (and others) store your makeup? I've been using a little cosmetics bag but now that I am actually wearing more than LipSmackers on a regular basis it's too small, and I'm looking for other ideas.
fatsmartandpretty asked: With respect ot the recent ask about powder foundation, I've used base minerals. I liked it-- good color, photographed well, wore well-- but I didn't like that I couldn't mix it well with other concealers or blushes or things on my face. It looks weird with non-bare minerals stuff. And I didn't find that a powder could act as a concealer for blemishes. I've also used...
integgy-deactivated20111214 asked: Ooh, ooh! If you've every wanted to find a good mineral makeup with a more matte finish, there's a great online mineral makeup company called Meow Cosmetics, who have a massive selection of mineral makeup shades. I have their powder foundation in flawless feline, and absolutely I love it.
asezawesome asked: Darling agony aunt --
Have you tried any mineral makeups? I have a fabulous mineral foundation that I love though I'm not sure how it's going to do later in the summer. It, like all of my makeup, is Avon. What can I say, my mom's an Avon lady, she gets me stuff at cost. :)

duckiedumonde asked: Hi! I'm about to go shopping for foundation--probably powdery-Bare-Essentials-type. I have pretty easy-going skin. What should I be thinking about as I purchase? I was thinking about MAC or Bare Essentials. Thanks!
easilyamusedoverlyexcited asked: Hi there!
Some Lip Stain reviews - I personally own and love both a CoverGirl lip marker and a Stila lipstain. The Stila was a bit harder for me to use, since it comes in one of those twist-bottom pen-brush things, where you click up the stain into the brush and it comes out as a gel. Apparently it can also be used as a cheek stain, which could be good for those who like a...

eldritchpanda-deactivated201111 asked: Thank you so much for all this excellent information on make-up! The top 3 "musts" you posted were exactly what I needed. I have a few questions though.
1. You said an eyeshadow primer is important, what qualities am I looking for in it? Is it just one of those "try it and see" things or are there things to look for? How do I know if it is doing what it is...

Anonymous asked: For the commenter who just asked about eyeshadow primer and lipstains:
I don't have a ton of experience with using them, but for what it's worth I use the E.L.F. primer and find it sort of fantastic. It's sold at Target, comes in a tube about the size of your average wand concealer tube, and--wait for it--costs $1. YES THAT'S RIGHT ONE DOLLAR. As I said, I...

Anonymous asked: Revlon just came out with a lip stain that's like 6 to 8 dollars a pop. I'm hoping to try it soon, anyone else have results with it?
monsterloft asked: I have two questions, both of which stem from my being quite poor at the moment. First, I got a sample bottle of Urban Decay eyeshadow primer and it is AMAZING, but I can't afford to buy it regularly. Are there any cheaper alternatives that will yield similar results? Second, I'm hearing good things about lip stains and I want to try it! I'm not sure what (hopefully affordable)...
ragmatical asked: My dearest Aunt Agony,
I just wanted to suggest that your recent asker - the one who wants to be a redhead - might want to try henna. They may still want to try bleaching first, depending on the shade of red they're going for. My hair is dark brown naturally, and I've been able to achieve a nice auburn without bleaching. If they'd like to do more research on henna, I...

auntymana asked: I love applying make-up, but I have glasses that magnify my eyes, which makes it pretty damn tricky to do lovely things to them that don't look clownish. I can get contacts, but my prescription is highly expensive, and my health issues (and motherhood) make it a pain to wear and maintain them. While I have LONG lashes, they're light in colour (natural blond), so that's also part...

ALTHOUGH one thing that bugged me about the captions: the picture of the lovely WOC with the manga-style eyes is captioned as "angry lady" while the smaller white woman with a similar, though more sinister-looking (to me) style is captioned as "manga make-up." HMM. *grumble*

retromodernelle asked: I also have a sample of the Benefit Badgal mascara and it's...ok. I actually really like Cover Girl Lashblast (the one Drew Barrymore used to advertise). I'm more about volume than length, though - I have plenty of natural length in my lashes.
allthatihavemet asked: My two cents on mascara!
Like you, I haven't really found the Holy Grail of mascara for myself; however, I have found a system that works really well for me. I use Rimmel's Extra Super Lash mascara as sort of my mascara primer/base. It's not a super powerful mascara, but it does outline lashes very well. If I'm patient and have a lot of time, I just layer on a...

This trick also works for those of us who don't have matching upper and lower lip shapes. My upper lip doesn't meet the edges of my lower lip so I have to create the shape otherwise lipstick will smear on the outside edges of my upper lip and it just looks a mess.

wut4 asked: Mascara... I have tried them all and my #1 favorite is the Rimmel Lash Extender. It lengthens (<3 long feathery lashes), it's buildable, it's pretty awesome and it's like $6. I've tried most of the expensive brands and always wind up going back to my old friend.

sugaryumyum asked: I love how FUN you and the people who chime in/leave suggestions are making makeup. Thank you for helping me feel less afraid of not doing things "right." I just want to buy a bag of colors and paint my face for no reason other than the fact that MY FACE WOULD LOOK AWESOME WITH COLORS ON IT! xoxoxo
Anonymous asked: My favorite makeup remover is just plain jojoba oil - I buy it from trader joe's, it's about $8 for a bottle that will probably last me years. I get a cotton pad wet with water, then put a drop of oil on it, then use that to remove my makeup. It gets off waterproof makeup SO easily - no tugging, it just comes right off! Plus I don't have to rinse it off, and it leaves my eye area...
Anonymous asked: I have a smallish mouth, and while lip plumping glosses make me deliciously tingly-feeling (on my face only, alas) they do me little good. I love wearing bright lipstick too, but it makes my lips look even thinner for being emphasized. have never tried lipliner or layering on anything else. I'd just go up to my bedroom and fool around with makeup, but I've already tried that, and as a...
Anonymous asked: I have seen a lot of tips about putting on makeup, but what about taking it off? No matter what I use, I seem to have makeup smudge around my eyes in the morning if I wore mascara the night before - and that surely can't be good, can it?
adjustedlatitude asked: To the redead getting married - not sure if this would work for you, but have you considered turquoise/aqua? I have similar coloring (although from the sounds of it I'm maybe paler-skinned than you?), and aqua is my JAM. I also think it's a great summer-eye color in general.

glitternails asked: "We get so used to our faces - when we throw some color on, it can look clownish to us even when it doesn’t look that way to anyone else."
That jumped out at me, because I am so scared to look clownish that I often wear the lightest dusting of color, but then it looks like I'm not wearing anything, and while I want a subtle look, it's usually a little too...

genteel asked: I am in a beige eyeshadow rut! I play around with different lipcolours all the time, but eyeshadow remains a total mystery to me. So I just swipe on some beige or light gray, and look....like my lids are naked. I would love to try some colours, but I am afraid of looking ridiculous, and don't know how to choose colours to suit me. Any advice?
fattiboombalatti asked: I have auburn hair with matching eyes, freckles but I can also tan a bit, not a pale red head so my coloring is a bit unusual. I do not wear a lot of makeup but when I do its shades of brown, my lipsstick even the reds have to have a touch of brown for it to flatter me.

lavenderlemons asked: I used liquid eyeliner for the first time today (inexpensive wet and wild stuff) and my goodness after a bit it was THICK and stuck to my eyelashes too and that was uncomfortable! How do I avoid that??
thelouringlady asked: Need help on using eyeliner for the lash lines and water line. Every time, I try to put either pencil or liquid eyeliner on my top lash lines, I blink and the eyeliner ends up smearing on the top of my lids. And every time I try to use liner on the waterline, I tear up like nobody's business. Any tips to rectify any of this?
Anonymous asked: I am wearing makeup at work today for the first time in 8 years, thanks to some of the tips ya'll have given me (yay, matte lipstick).
Purchased eyeliner last night, and played with it a little, but not very well.
I was wondering, though, what is the "waterline"?

reluctanthurricane asked: About the eye lining question, I feel like I should throw in my 2¢ about how you don't have to line your whole eye and it ends up looking much less dramatic. It seems really obvious to me now, but it took me about two years of wearing liner to figure that out. I find it's better to fully line when playing with colour, but for black or dark brown, I almost never do.
